Does it matter where a fender strat (guitar) is made?
I want to buy a strat made in Mexico for 360$ and I was wondering if it matters where it was made. Also is this a good deal for a pearl white fender strat?
All these guitars are shaped using CNC milling machines. The machine doesn’t know what country it’s in or the nationality of the operator who is pushing the buttons. In that respect, a Chinese or Mexican Fender can be every bit as playable as an American one. The difference lies in the materials being used.
The body of American guitars will be made of better looking wood. To a large degree, this is cosmetic. The biggest difference is in the quality of the hardware, frets, pickups and wiring. The Mexican Fenders are very nice guitars, but many times they’ll have fewer switching options and cheaper pickups. Part of the extra price you pay for American made is the labor…but the highest quality materials are also used. American Strats also come with a hard shell case instead of a gig bag, so that adds a few bucks to the price. An American Strat will also hold it’s value better than a foreign made one.As with any other product, you get what you pay for….there ARE differences, but there are good Strats for every budget.
