Fender Champion 600 Tube Amp Question?
Ive seen the New Fender Champion 600. It is a very basic tube amp with a 5 watt speaker (lol!) Ive seen it brand new ata very good price and depsite it having no tone controls every review has given it thumbs up for sound. I like my sparkly cleans – Gilmourish.
My question is – will 5 watts be enough for a small room / apartment. I dont wana gig with it. I currently have a 30 watt fender solid state and I can barely play that above number 2-3 because of volume+loundness.
Will this little 5 watt amp be ok? will it have the “thumpy dynamics” of my 30 watt solid state but with shimmery cleans? or will it distort TOO much (it goe up to number 12)
Any advice would be GREAT. Id especially like to hear from 600 owners themselves. It looks so fifties and boutique too, it seems like an ideal amp given the price and tone. Its just the loudness is my main concern.
btw i would use a multi fx to shape the bass mid and treble and for other FX

Considering that most touring musicians use similar amps for practicing, I would surmise that this would be fine. As an owner of a Fender Champ 25, among others, I can tell you that you will get out of it most of what you want. Five amps is PLENTY for a small room; you won’t be able to “crank it up” too far – tube amps are like that. As far as the “oomph,” that has more to do with speaker size and power ratings than mere output alone. You will generally get more loudness from solid state, but true tone comes from tube amplifiers, that’s why touring pros use tubes. By using outside effects for the tone control, you should be able to dial in the tone you want, but beware; tube amps, regardless of output, are addicting. Happy Trails.
