Please help me with guitar?
So I’ve been thinking about changing the pickups on my guitar. I have a Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS and was thinking of swapping out all the pickups for the Fender Vintage Noiseless. I’m completely clueless on how to change them myself so I was thinking about going to a store and have them swap them out. The problem is, I have to pay for them to do it, I have to get a new pickguard because they are all single-coils and i have an HSS, and I have to get the pickups themselves. My question is, is it worth it? I’ve heard friends of mine who have the pickups and videos on youtube and I’m in love with their tone. Should I really. Note that I’m still a minor and I have a lot of money from my birthday to use. Should I really do it? Thanks!
lol, no, I’m happy with my amp for now. If i do get the pickups it’s probably going to be the last thing I get until I get a job.There’s a great online store called Guitar Fetish that sells the vintage noiseless Strap pickups, as well as pickguards, for a fraction of what they’d cost at a music store. If you bought them there, you’d only have to pay the luthier for the labor involved in changing out your pickups. I’ve been buying parts at Guitar Fetish since I started building custom guitars a few years ago. The prices are about half of those at other parts stores, but the quality is fantastic. And to create their own line of pickups, the people at Guitar Fetish buy big-name pickups, study them, and then make exact duplicates. I’ve bought everything from their version of vintage Gibson humbuckers to Rickenbacker clones and couldn’t be happier with the results.
Since you’ve fallen in love with the tone, it sounds like you’re ready to take the leap no matter what anyone says. But if the cost of the pickups, pickguard and installation are too extreme, it might be time to consider building your own custom Strat guitar. You could probably pick up a body and neck (as well as hardware) on eBay and hand pick each of your new guitar’s components. If you built a second guitar, you’d be spared the alterations to your American Strat.
