How do you make the pegs on the guitar have less effect on tuning?
I have an electric guitar that has machines that turn almost as fast as the peg turning them. When I’m tuning, it’s hard to get precise with them moving that fast.
You haven’t given enough information.
Most guitars that cost over $200 have tuners that have a 16 to 1 ratio… this means that for each 16 turns of the knob, the string post turns once. I can’t think of a single guitar that has tuners less than 8 to 1… even the cheapest ones.
Granted, the higher the ratio the easier it will be to bring the thing in tune, but my bet is that it isn’t your tuners.
Loosen each string enough to pull the string out of the nut. Take a sharp wood pencil (must be a wood pencil) and “color” in the string slot. This will deposit a bit of graphite into the slot and make the string move easier and probably give you better tuning success.
Also, as intimated above, you should always bring the string below pitch, then tune up.
