Need Help Changing Guitar Strings With a Weird Tuning Peg?

The tuning peg or machine head of whatever it is that you need to feed the string through doesn’t actually have a hold to feed the string through.
Apparently you have to put the string down a hold on the top, then catch it in the groove, and turn it. Except when I tried to replace the 6th string, it always ended up too long by the time I got it tuned to low E. Long meaning the string kept hitting the frets. I kept shortening the string until it it was absolutely too short to even be tuned. I stopped after that.
So how do I change the strings?
Slap on a new string, trim so as to leave about 2 inches of string past the slotted machine head. Feed the end down the hole and bend along the slot until the string forms a right angle. Tighten your tuning pegs, but make certain that your windings fall under the bend.
Tune her up, and your Strat is ready to rock.
