Tube Amplifier Spark?
So I turned on my amp, and the third tube made a huge spark inside of the head. It’s been making a lot of staticy white noise lately too. This amp is two years old. What should I do? Is there something wrong?
Arcing in a vacuum tube can be caused by a fractured filament that’s about to go completely open (i.e. burn out), or by a high voltage discharge through metalization (shiny coating on the inside of the tube that accumulates over time), or some other contamination that might’ve been present in the tube from day one.
If it continues to occur, replace the tube that you saw the arc come from. That’s likely where the noise originates as well.
