Telecaster good for Alt. Rock?
for 3 years ive held on to my strat but ive always wanted a tele. however, i dont know if that guitar has a nice ring when distortion is used, or is better only with a clean sound. i play alternative/hard rock, sometimes i use a little pop-rockish/emoish sound. would a fender telecaster work well, and are only 2 pickups better (or worse) than 3?
I play in a pretty heavy band, we play in Drop C tuning and use plenty of distortion, and I use a Telecaster (american made)…it sounds great, I still prefer a les paul or SG slightly for distortion, but a tele will still sound great, and you get the versatility of a better clean sound.
for pickups, 2 or 3 wont give you much of a different sound, just different options, most of the time you only use 1 pickup, depending on where you have your toggle switch set, with 2 pickups, the switch has 3 spots, for bridge, both, and neck pickups, in that order. with 3 pickups, I believe there are usually 5 spots for the toggle switch, its probably a little unnecessary, for your kind of music, you will spend 95% of the time on the Bridge pickup anyways.
