Best wood for a Guitar?
I am building an electric guitar. It has a custom shape but is similar to a tele (but with more indents and curves) I am using a mahogany/rosewood neck (pre purchased) and cannot figure out what wood to use for the body. What wood would give me the best sound quality and durability? Originally I used ash, but i messed up the center line.
for Teles, I either like swamp ash (softer and lighter) or alder.
If you are going to see the grain of the wood, ash looks much better.I don’t like maple for solid bodies, and VERY few companies use it.
It is too hard, and too heavy.
VERY bright sounding wood
Fender doesn’t use maple for the body of any of their solid body guitars.
Just necks.Gibson uses it for the “cap” of the Les Paul, but 90% of the body is mahogany, and Les Pauls use Humbuckers, not single coils like the Tele.
