Replacing pickups on a cheap guitar?
A couple of years ago I got a cheap fat strat style guitar, and I’m too cheap to get a new guitar, so I was looking to help the sound by replacing the humbucker. My question is, will replacing only the one pickup make the sound unbalanced? I want to put a Super Distortion in it, and I was wondering if I’d also have to replace the single coils. Do the pots and stuff have to be changed out too, or just the pickup? Thanks.
It depends on the model of your guitar.. I’d recommend changing both, especially since most cheaper models do tend to rely on both pickups for their output.
I’d also recommend bringing it to a shop to have them install it for you, just so you don’t mess up.
