What brand of strings is best for a hollow-bodied electric guitar?
I think I need to change my strings but i don’t know what’ll give me the best sound with the pickups and amp I have…a line six spider amp and whatever pickups come with an epiphone dot studio. Maybe also what are some really nice pickups cause mine kinda suck.
You didn’t mention what kind of music you play. Another poster recommended flat wound strings, and if you’re playing Jazz then that might be cool.
Strings are a very personal choice, because you’re not only buying them for tone but feel as well. Stainless steel strings will be the brightest sounding ones, followed by nickle (my choice).
As far as brands, I’ve been using D’Addario strings on everything but my Strats now for years. There’s something about their composition that makes them last a lot longer with me. My funky body chemistry can kill a set of Ernie Balls in less than one set, but a lot people like them.
Pickups…again very personal. And without knowing what style of music you play and your budget it’s tough to make specific recommendations. I just installed a set of Gibson Burstbuckers in an Epiphone Les Paul last week for a client, and we were both blown away.
I’ve got a an Epi Dot as well, and I’ve got the Seymour Duncan ’59s in both positions.
