do i buy the fender whammy bar?
i have a fender Squier and no whammy bar for it…i went on Ebay and theres all kinds of whammy bars but i don’t know which is the one that will fit in my guitar. it only has Fender Stratocaster Strat and some other ones but no fender squier whammy bars. will the Stratocaster work for it? =/
David, unfortunately Fender uses at least four different threads on their tremolo arms, depending upon model and country-of-manufacture. The made-in-America standard Stratocaster arms use the 10-32 thread, which will generally not work in a Squier by Fender instrument. Tremolo arms for Squiers are typically metric at 5-.8mm, but a few use 10-24. Try searching on eBay for your specific model at http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=tremolo+arm+squier&_sacat=See-All-Categories for examples of tremolo arms specified for Squier by Fender guitars. P.S. If you do not have a music store conveniently located in your area, try purchasing inch-long 10-24 and 5-.8mm screws from your local hardware store. Most likely one or the other will fit your Squier, and at least you would know the correct thread for your application. My experience is that the majority of sellers typically do not know the thread designations, so if you buy from eBay make sure they offer a refund for incompatibility. I really am a die-hard Fender Stratocaster fan, but do not understand why the factory continues making the different thread sizes, when one would easily fit all applications. Of course, there are still those nagging differences in the tremolo blocks, bridge plates and pivot arrangement, tremolo springs, bridge saddles, and other oddities as you navigate through the models and country-of-manufacture, but I guess that is what makes owning a Fender guitar interesting!
