I have a black J.B. Player electric guitar, strat style, purchased circa 1986-7. I have been trying to find?
out more about the guitar but with no luck via the internet. I believe it to have costed in the $500 range at the time. It has a licensed “Floyd Rose” tremolo with some design variation. It is a neck through the body design. Two single coil and one humbucker near the bridge. Two black knurled knobs for tone and volume and three switches. Anybody have any info on this guitar? At the guitar shop that just serviced, repair guy believed that brand was made by a bigger, more well known manufacturer back in that time frame. Just trying to find out pedigree of guitar. Thanks.
Yep. JBPlayer was a reincarnation of Mighty Mite. They were played by such bands as Oingo Boingo.
Mighty Mite was a relatively well known pickup manufacturer, making such models as the THREE coil “Motherbucker”. They also made some very good quality wood parts and imported a small selection of accessories. If I remember correctly they also handmade some bridges in solid brass. My guitars used to feature Mighty Mite necks and pickups in the late 70s/ early 80s.
Anyway, I believe that Mighty Mite changed it’s name to Mightymite and their guitars became JBPlayer at the same time they were bought out by Cort. All JBPlayer guitars are now built by them.
You must have a later production of the line since they were known for their weird guitars such as the Mercury and the Buick (no kidding).
Depending on the model, it was made either in California or Korea. All their guitars had set in necks, not neck thru.
You are correct in the approximate price for your guitar… they sold for about $500 in the early 80s.
