When i switch to the bridge pickup on my Fender Strat the volume cuts almost all the way out?
The other single coils are fine but the humbucker pickup drops about half the volume out, so when i go to play leads and switch to the bridge the volume drops out. Sucks right?
Hi there! Although there are many possibilities, the most likely would be the pickup wiring or the selector switch. You will need to remove the pickguard assembly (see http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhNVNoCayylKqC1Hz0kscbrty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081114082743AAni9cl , following the appropriate steps), to inspect the circuitry. First, check to see if all the wires from the humbucker are properly terminated, and that the solder joints are securely in place. Re-solder if necessary. Next, look at the selector switch contact points, to make sure they are not corroded in the bridge position. Use a little alcohol and a cotton swab to gently clean the surfaces. If neither of these checks solve the problem, then the pickup itself is probably faulty. Since pickups on Stratocasters are pretty well protected inside the guitar, there is a strong likelihood that there is an internal short in the pickup windings; unfortunately, this will require either an expert repair or a replacement pickup.
