How Do I Get Great Guitar Sounds?
I know the Epiphone Les Paul Classic isn’t exactly as good as the the Gibson Les Pauls, but that’s what I use anyway. I’ll be changing to the Ibanez RG Series that has D’Marzio Pickups.
The thing is, I don’t know how advanced players get so much sustain and clean sounds when string bending and sweep picking whenever I play, my guitar sounds very muffled and ‘unclean’. If you know what I mean. I’ve tried changing the EQ. many times, but it doesn’t seem to help. I heard that using effects pedals help to maintain sustained bends and can provide cleaner sounds. Also heard that turning down the guitar’s volume, and the amp’s volume up can reduce feedback and provide a very clean sound. I need someone to confirm if all these are true and any suggestions on what guitar or effects pedals I should get if I want to play metal or instrumental rock. I play songs by Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

The Epiphone Les Paul Classic is still a decent guitar. It’s no Gibson, but it’s probably one of the better guitars in it’s pricerange. A compression/sustainer pedal can help you to get more sustain, and as far as sounding clean, give the EQ some treble, keep your tone knobs on the guitar turned up, and practice. Alot of getting a good clean sound while sweeping is just technique and practice. Practice slowly at first, all the while making sure that you’re fretting cleanly, and then build up speed when you’re confident in your technique. Also, for really fast sweeps and runs, you might want to use your bridge pickup.
