If I have the money is it really worth getting an ALL solid wood guitar?
I think I can afford getting an Epiphone DR-500M because I;ve ben saving up a while, but does it really matter if the sides are laminate? I’m really tempted to get a cheap guitar with just a solid top? I mean is there that much of a difference in your opinion?
Solid wood is stronger and sounds better. Simple as that.
Laminate is cheaper because it’s easier to make. If the sound or quality was even comparable they wouldn’t bother making solid wood guitars.
Go to a guitar store and sit down with a $100 guitar and an $800 one, you’ll notice the difference right away, even from just strumming one chord. The difference will be a little more extreme, but it will prepare your ears to hear how much better a solid wood guitar sounds.
Bottom line: There’s no such thing as a decent laminate guitar. Buy all wood.
