What kind of electric guitar should I buy?
Well currently I’m about to hang up my first guitar on my wall. Birthday is coming up and after one knob and 3 years of bangs and gashes i think its time for a new victim to unleash the terrible fury of misplaced picking and awkward squeals
I play just about everything i can get a tab on, as in a vary wide range of any song and genre:
dethklok, pantera, foo fighters
RHCP, killswitch engage
iron maiden, dead kennedys
brand new, any video game theme
bucket head, judas priest, jimmi hendrix
some eric clapton some thin lizzy
MetallicA of course.., black sabbath, led zepplin
and even Weezer if i’m in the moodbasically looking for an all around guitar that can make any song great but i wana try and keep budget below 1000 bucks
friend suggested the Telecaster, any one have any good suggestions?
See, the reason there are so many brands and models is that no single one is best for everybody. Sure, most of the greats play a fender strat–but Carvin and Gibson and Takamine get their studio time too.
What you should do is ignore anyone else’s advice and find the guitar that’s for YOU. To do that, go to a really good shop–or maybe more than one–Guitar Center, Sam Ash, the local store that sells band and orchestral instruments as well as rock gear–and try out everything that’s around your price range.
Feel is the first consideration. Does your left hand love that neck? Does your right arm embrace that body? Are all the strrings in easy reach?
If so, then looks and reputation are your second and third consideration.
Once you’ve found one or more models that are your personal dream guitar, leave that store and shop for price. Keep in touch with that store in case they have a sale on it, also look on ebay and at http://www.musiciansfriend.com and maybe http://www.musicyo.com
Keep in mind that the final sound of the guitar depends on (1) amp-speaker combo (2) effects pedals (6) pickups. The pickups can be replaced, and the other purchases are of course separate from the guitar.
