Prewired Painted Pickguard

  • How to paint my pickguard?

I have an Epiphone G400 and I want to paint the pickguard. What kind of paint should I use? Is the pickguard prewired? What are the steps?

I don’t know anything about Epiphones, but painting a pickguard is pretty straightforward (and kind of a bitch sometimes).

If the guard is pre-wired, then (only if you’re confident/proficient enough) you can snip the wires at the solder point and plan to resolder them later.

However, if the pickguard is free-fitting, then just remove it (pull off the knobs, pickup adjuster tip, screws), sand it down til it’s gritty with medium-grit paper, apply a coat or two of primer, about 5 coats of your base color, and finally a 2-3 coat top-layer of clearcoat.

Hope this helps out a bit. Oh, and if you were wondering, you can paint your pickups with plain acrylic or spraypaint too, just make sure you tape/cover the metal sensors beforehand.
