Steel pedal guitar or accoustic guitar?
I’m looking at taking steel guitar lessons and have no previous guitar experience. Would I be better off first learning accoustic guitar. Will I be limited with the steel guitar or is it versitable?
They’re really 2 different instruments and aren’t played the same, so learning one has no real bearing on the other. The steel pedal guitar is played by sliding a glass or medal slide across the strings with the left hand while picking them with the right hand. It sits flat on a stand. I think they have more strings as well (I’m no expert on pedal guitar though). Unless you want to be in a country band, I’d recommend a steel string acoustic guitar, but if you want to get a more unique skill and like the sound of it, the steel pedal guitar certainly has fewer followers and would make you more marketable in the country market. I guess it really comes down to what type of music you want to play.
