how much is this guitar?
im not looking to buy a new guitar but i was just looking around on guitarcenter.com and i was in the vintage section and a lot of the stuff comes right outa hollywood and there are no prices until they are requested. i saw an original 1956 gibson les paul gold top in good shape. how much do these guitars go for? it must be insane. again i am not buying one im just curious
There are many factors that determine the value. Most important is originality; have parts or electronics been replaced, is anything missing, is the case original, does it have documented proof that it was once owned and played by some known guitarist, etc. These things are much more important to a buyer than the physical condition of the finish, plating on the hardware, and so forth. Prices are determined according to what similar items have recently sold for to collectors and at auctions. A serious collector would only deal with expert and ethical vintage guitar dealers such as George Gruhn’s in Nashville, Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI, or Madolin Brothers. You can Google these to see their current inventory and prices. No serious collector would ever even consider buying anything from Guitar Center, nor should you, as this place generally employs people who have their heads up their butts.
