Stylophone hum/whine issue?
I have a Stylophone (not an original, one of the reproduction models from ThinkGeek) that I run through a Zoom BFX-708 effects processor (and then, occasionally, into a talkbox), but when it’s output is anything but its own internal speaker, there’s this constant, incredibly high-pitched whine louder than any one note that can be played on the Stylophone. This really interferes with the sound, and the only thing I can think to do is patch a Lo-Pass filter into the output cable. I’m wondering if this is the right step to take?
You might try a lot larger reservoir capacitor (say 2000uF) across the power supply/battery. An LPF may help but getting to the source of the whine is probably a better move. Maybe you’ve a friend with access to an oscilloscope to try and track down the offending signal.
