High Tension nylon guitar strings?
i just bought a new classical guitar and i dont really like the flimsy feeling of the strings. is there nylon string that will feel like more like the strings on a regular acoustic.
There is a great deal of difference in sound between nylon and steel strings – it’s just the nature of things.
If by flimsy, you mean feel more than sound, then higher tension nylon strings may be worth trying out. They still sound and act like nylon strings though. The higher tension nylon strings will potentially (on better guitars) sound like having a slightly harder and sharper attack – still nothing near a steel string.
You also have different type of materials – for the treble strings in particular – which gives light variations in sound. One such alternative is carbon fibre treble strings. There’s less variation in the basses. These are either wound with bronze wire or silver plated copper wire.
The bottom line is this, if you really prefer steel strings and the sound they produce, you will need a steel string guitar.
There are also something called silk and steel strings (made for steel string guitars – the tension is too high for a classical, nylon string guitar), which comes somewhat in between the steel and nylon in sound.
