What kind of strings (steel or nylon) do I need for my Seagull guitar and how does its pickup work?
I just bought a Seagull Acoustic-Electric S6 Folk Cutaway Guitar with a Godin pickup on eBay. This is my first guitar, and I’d like to put some fresh strings on it as the ones it arrived with are corroded and rusted. How do I know what kind of strings to put on? The Seagull website mentions you can’t put steel strings on a nylon string guitar because it messes with the tension on the neck and whatnot, but I’m not real sure what I’ll need to put on as the previous owner seems to have treated this guitar like crap. I also would like to know what gauge range the strings are for this particular guitar. Also, how does this Godin pickup work? There is a slot on the side of the guitar for a 9v battery which I connected. There is also a volume and treble/bass knob. Absolutely nothing happened when I put in a fresh battery and turned it on. Any tips on what I should be doing with the pickup? Thanks very much to anyone who can help me.
Your guitar should use light gauge strings. Godin actually recommends the following sizes, .12, .16, .24, .32, .42, .53. (check the below link). Sorry I can’t provide anything buy very basic information about the electronics. Like your bass/treble should be set a mid-range and you should start off with volume in the minimum position (fully counter-clockwise); and, make sure your amp is working and your cable is good.
