can i fit fender p bass pickups into an ibanez soundgear bass?
please only answer if you have knowledge of bass guitars.
i have a fender p bass thats ruined but the neck & bridge pickups are mint…i have a mint ibanez soundgear bass that has no pickups. since they seem to be the same configuration, (i.e; a split coil neck pickup & a single coil bridge pickup)…can’t i just install & wire the fender ones into the ibanez & have everything sound fine?
I suppose it stands to reason given Fender’s historical role in rock n’ roll music, but many companies like Ibanez have created designs for their hardware based on Fender specifications. Most of Ibanez’s top-of-the-line bass guitars incorporate more sophisticated pickups from companies like Bartolini; many of this prestigious company’s designs are also based on Fender specs.
What kind of Ibanez bass do you have? The SR 300 series basses incorporate P-style Ibanez brand pickups that are very similar to the pickups off a standard P-bass. Neither bass has active electronics, and assuming both basses are 4-string guitars, they will most likely fit.
Two things to worry about. One, you still need to find a jazz pickup for the bridge spot on an Ibanez SR 300 (it’s a JP configuration). Two, I’ve never tried switching them out, but I can guarantee you you’ll get a very different sound out of that Ibanez if you do replace the IBZ pickups with Fenders.
Experimenting is fun, though. What could it hurt? You won’t have to drill into your body, so it’s not like you would ruin your guitar if it fails.
