Should i buy a bass guitar or a multi-effects pedal?
okay so i already have a guitar and i am bored of it, i want to get more effects out of it so i was thinking of buying a multi-effects pedal and a new amp for my guitar. But then i feel like buying a bass guitar because it looks more fun than guitar and it looks more of a laid-back type of instrument.
so yeah i dunno what to buyIf the pedal / effects system comes with a looper of some kind, or an expression pedal with some wah, distortions etc, then yea, it may be useful. But I think multieffects stuff brings a shortlived thrill, at least in my experience.
Buying and playing bass might get you thinking different musically. Although my Digitech RP255 has a guitar to bass patch, so I can basically play bass lines with a guitar (though not with an authentic feel).
A new amp – definitely!. Watch demos on youtube and try them out first if you can.
What you didn’t mention – guitar pickups. 90% of imported guitars come with imported pickups that sound like junk and muddiness. The best thing you could do for your tone would be to get a pair of seymour duncans or similar for your favorite guitar, and a mid-priced (read: Made in Asia, Mexico, etc.) all valve amplifier.
But in the end, I don’t think buying stuff can make you more interested. You should buy stuff if you are more interested in the first place. Maybe try something musically different?
My experience is that most effects I get bored with easily or I find them to be very thin in the case of amp modeling. I think the best use of money is on a good tube amp that is connected to a good speaker.
