For an alternative metal band?
my friends and i are starting an alternative metal band and i need a new guitar that preferably has a tremolo bar, a toggle switch, and two volume knobs, i am not a rich person so i cannot afford a guitar that costs more than $600-$700 or if anyone can give me a link on how to put a toggle switch in a stratocaster

Even though I am a Stratocaster nut through and through, I don’t think that may be the best guitar for metal, either alternative or traditional styles. A better choice would be Ibanez or Gibson, which seem to be the preferred manufacturers by many players of the genre. As has been already well mentioned, check out the used equipment outlets (i.e., pawn shops, eBay, Daddy’s Junky Music at http://www.daddys.com, Music Go Round at http://www.musicgoround.com, local guitar shops, etc.). You should be able to get a very nice guitar for your budget; just make sure to take someone along who knows what to look for in a pre-owned instrument, and that you are happy with both the sound and playability. Having stated that, adding a toggle switch to a Stratocaster is the easy part; figuring out what you want it to do, and wiring it accordingly is the hard part! I am assuming you want to expand your pickup combinations, beyond the pickup selector switch; however, since you didn’t add what you were trying to accomplish, check out
