What happens if you play righty on a left handed guitar?
I’m a lefty and i bought a left handed acoustic guitar.
But i sort of played it for awhile then gave up, my best friend loves the guitar and doesn’t have a lot of money and she always has to play on this shitty 40 dollar guitar she bought on ebay…
so i gave her mine and switched the strings around, will the guitar still work, i mean will it sound correct? or will it mess up the guitar?

i switched the strings around so there in the position a right handed guitarist is use to them being in.
I just want to know if the strings being in the wrong position will effect the guitar in anyway.You shouldn’t really just restring a guitar upside down like that. For one thing, the slots in the nut and bridge are cut for the strings to go the way they originally were. If you flip them to make a right handed guitar left-handed or vice versa, the nut slots will be the wrong width for the strings. Also, some guitars have a compensated saddle that allows the intonation to be correct on the strings (lower strings are a bit shorter than the higher ones. If you flip the guitar over and restring it upside down that intonation will be off. I’ll assume your guitar has no pickguard or a cutaway, otherwise those would now be on the top instead of the bottom. Also, the bracing inside most guitars is set up to optimize the tone and flipping it and restringing would not sound as good. The neck also is compensated for higher pressure on the bass strings because they’re thicker and produce more tension on the neck. Putting them on the opposite side with the thinner strings on top may cause the neck to twist over time. If you have dual truss rods you can adjust for that. Overall, it’s never a good idea to string a guitar opposite from the way it was originally set up like that.
