can a right hand electric guitar be used as a left hand one?
i m a lefty n i m thinking of buying a electric guitar. unfortunately, stores dont sell left handed electric guitars…at least not those i prefer. i m thinking of restringing a right handed electric to make it left handed, just like how i did to my acoustic. will it pose a prob? having a electric guitar turned upside down? plz help!!
You *can*… I wouldn’t suggest it, though. You have to flip the saddle, adjust the bridge (or replace it, or flip it… depending on the guitar), adjust the action to suit the reversed tension, etc… It’s not just a matter of flipping the strings.
Most everywhere sells left handed guitars, and in basically every kind of model.
The other option is to just play a right handed guitar. You use both of your hands for playing, anyway… so why does it matter what hand you have doing what? Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins is left handed, but plays right handed. If you learn to play that way, then it’s not hard, from what I understand. Of course, if you’ve already learned to play left handed really well, then you’d have to completely relearn and it would be a waste. Of course, if that were the case, and you already knew how to play, you probably wouldn’t be asking this question. So…
So yeah… it *can* be done. But it’s a lot of work… probably more than you’d be able to do on your own, given you don’t even know if it’s possible (so obviously you don’t know how to do it). So you’d probably have to pay to have the work done professionally.
