G&L (Legacy or S-500) vs. Strat?
I’m looking to get a new guitar soon (I’ve been playing a crappy Jay Turser strat look-alike for the last six years) and I was wondering what you all felt about G&L guitars, because I’ve heard very good things about them and I’ve also heard that Fender quality has gone south. So the models I was looking at were an American Standard or Deluxe Fender Strat or a G&L Legacy or S-500. Which of those are best?
Musical influences are SRV, Hendrix, Clapton, BB, Santana, Los Lonely Boys, Led Zep, etc.
I play in the band that backs up choirs at my school so I need a *very* versatile guitar that can do everything from blues to pop to classic rock to disco.
Definitely go with the g&l if you can. G&L was started by Leo Fender and George Fullerton, after Fender guitars was sold. They are basically improved fender guitars, and are all built in the U.S (except for the cheaper tribute series). The s500 is a strat with better pickups that aren’t as noisy, and its made with higher quality wood. I’ve owned a g&l ASAT special for 8 years and its never let me down. I use it for everything from soft rock to metal, however i’ve heard that the legacies and s500s are even more versatile than mine.
If you’ve got the cash, get either of the g&ls for sure.
