It a much more popular instrument and you can play on your own and still have fun whereas drums are basically only fun in a band. Suggesting a guitar though is difficult as I have no idea what music you are into. A good suggestion for shredding is an ibanez but Id have to say that the epiphone you mentioned is really good for heavy stuff.
