pickup/humbucker help and opinions?
i have epiphone les paul and i wana put new pickups on it i play metal
such as metallica which use emg, distrubed, pantera, slayer,children of bodom, i play like dimebag darroll abbot and i shred 2 like but not as fast michael angelo batio.. i have 2 slots neck/treble and body/rhythm, i need help on which pick ups on what position. im interseted in emgx active 81, 85, deans dimetime pick-up and m,a,d (michael angelo batio) hands without shadows pick-up, seymour duncan blackouts and dimebucker. i want a dimebag tone yet i want good shreddin pick-ups. my best idea is dime time on body and hands without shadows on neck. any ideas and opinions?EMG is a good choice if you use the 81 and 85. The dimebucker is good and if you listen to Pantera, that is what he uses. It has a smooth and crunchy tone. This pickip is perfect for any amys whether it is tube or solid state. It will repsond especially if you are into heavy rock and metal.
Personally, I wouldn’t put EMG if you want that metallica sound with an Epiphone LP . but if you decide for active pickups, place a small piece of foam over the pot so your batters lies on top. It fits perfectly.
One final suggestion. I put DiMarzio Super distortion pickups on my old Gibson and have tried all combinations with Seymour and other pickups. The Super Distortion will give you what oyu need as faras output, guts, heavy rock or metal. Why I suggest this is because Epiphone sound awesome wtih DiMarzio, better than Seymour for metal.
