Which bass guitar should I get?
Which bass guitar should I purchase, a Hofner Icon, or should I get a Rogue VB100 (not the series II) but buy flat strings for it? A comparison of the two is greatly appeciated. Thanks!!
I personally do not think you would be happy with either bass. My guess would be that the Hofner sounds and plays better but since there is no information about the actual hardware installed on the bass and even Hofner’s web site does not mention it, I would hesitate to buy one. The bass you really want is the Hofner 500/1 CT Bass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxNlmtjHb9I – This bass sounds and plays excellent and even comes with Pyramid flat would strings. I would stay away from the Rogue because they entered the market place to make a cheaper viola bass than either Epiphone or Hofner. Generally the high quality companies like Hofner, will build as much quality as they can into their low end products even if it means they will not make a huge profit on the item because they want you to be happy and buy your next (more expensive) bass from them as well. Taylor and Martin guitars do that very successfully with their small acoustic guitars. The Baby Taylor and the Little Martin sound and play great and no other acoustic guitar in their price range can touch them for quality. But, since the Hofner web site does not even mention the Icon, http://www.hofner.com/gab/en/phpshop/43/page,shop.category/category_id,10/ it’s almost as if they are ashamed of it. My advise is go and play one and if you like the way it feels and sounds, then buy it. But, it’s an iffy purchase at best from my point of view.
