What would be a good beginner guitar for me?
I am just starting off I really have no prior experience with guitars except for just messing around with my friends. I plan on learning it and possibly starting a band. What would be a good one for me that will last for a while and is not too expensive. Maybe a set that comes with amp, guitar, case, strap, and a couple of picks would be nice. Basically I just need a good quality beginner guitar.
First off, you should always get a guitar that sounds good to you, and for an electric that means getting an amp that sounds good to you too.
I would not buy a package, everything is cheap, cheap, cheap. I would suggest finding used gear to save on $$, check out consignments in store. You can get a Squire for about $100 used. Plus you don’t care about warranty so you can tinker with it. Never mail order a guitar, you don’t get to hear or see it first.
I would spend more on the amp than the guitar – no guitar sounds good through a bad amp. Having said that, a 15 Watt amp is More than enough – don’t be pushed into buying huge watts – doubling wattage does not double volume, but it will multiply your costs.
Les Paul type guitars tend to be more expensive and cheap ones tend to be just that, so lean toward Squire Affinity/Standard Strat/Tele (quality varies from guitar to guitar) or even a Mexican Strat/Tele. for a few more $. Ibanez, Dean, Jackson, Floyd Rose, etc. etc. will all have something in entry price range.
