how do i wire this guitar pickup?
i have a cheap douglass guitar and i bought a new pickup for the bridge., the guy at the store said they would a be color coated the same but they are not, the pickup has 5 wires coming from it, green, black and white (these two are connected), red, and an unshielded wire. the old pickup just had one blue wire and inside the blue wire was 2 wires, one white, and one unsheilded… i still have the blue wire connected to the guitar but how do i hook up the new pickup?
where the blue wire connects to the switch, the white wire inside of it is connected to one post and the other non colored wire goes back up into the wire for the other pickup
The guy in the guitar store is apparently clueless. However, your question cannot be answered because each pickup manufacturer uses different color codes. Whatever pickup company you went with, you will need to log onto their site to determine what the colors mean. If you bought the pickup new, pickups normally come with a pamphlet inside that tell you what each wire is. I can tell you that the unshielded wire is a ground though.
