playing bass guitar, heavy metal, no picks involved!?
I’ve been playing bass for about 4 years (casually) I mostly played funk to heavy rock. But recently I’ve really gotten into play death metal but I am having such a hard time playing some of these fast rifts with just my fingers(I prefer to use fingers). It’s easy to do regular tripelates just rolling my ring finger(3) down to my pointer finger(1) but I have trouble with the 4th note on where to go with my fingers.

its a sweet song by fear factory, just listen to the 1st couple of seconds and you’ll know what I mean. How I’ve been attempting it is 3-2-1-1-3-2-1-1-1……i cannot seem to get it right if i just keep rolling from 321 over and over, i lose track…….is there a certain technique im missing? any video tutorials lurking around the interwebs? any help would be appreciated. rock on
The link isn’t working for me, but I think I know what you’re talking about. I can use three fingers to play bass, though I rarely use the technique because I can do a tremolo of about 10 notes per second with just my two and it’s kind of pointless to go much faster. I start with my index finger so I count ONE(index), two(ring), three(middle), four(index), ONE(ring), two(middle), three(index), four(ring), etc. The trick is to accent the first note and just keep track of what finger needs to accent next. It’s just one of those things you have to slow down to 60 BPM with a metronome and practice for a few months and eventually you’ll get it.
