How much does a fret change cost for a guitar?
Well, I bought a guitar last summer.
An used 2002 Fender Standard American Stratocaster. And it’s a magnificent guitar. But the shop owner also said that it needs a fret change because it’s been played a lot over the past 8 years.
There are some deep grooves in the nut(the plastic thing before the first fret) and also some other frets have small grooves in them.
By the way, I need a fret change.. Only the frets, not the whole fretboard.
Thanks in advance.My favorite guy charges $250, and that includes the new nut and set up. Given that nut replacement alone runs $60 I find that reasonable.
You might want to explore different materials of nuts, for example most whammie bar users swear by the Black TusQ (synthetic ivory impregnated with teflon, good sound and doesn’t go out of tune on dive bombs) while others swear that genuine bone is the best substitute for genuine ivory.

The price I gave was for fret replacement, the price MarcThyme gave was for fret dressing. You may be able to get by with a fret dressing, and as MarcThyme indicated it is well within the do-able range of someone who is careful and not a complete klutz.
