Should I play guitar left-handed ot right-handed?
I’m left-handed, and I wish to learn to play guitar. I’ve attempted to play righty before, but never stuck with it. The problem is, it feels more natural to hold the guitar righty, but I’m able to pick a lot faster, and accurately left-handed. Also, if you suggest lefty, could you also suggest a good, cheap left-handed guitar?
Since you are at a transistional point and naturally left handed, I’d say go lefty.
A lot of greats were southpaws. (Hendrix, Clapton, Elliot Easton, Albert King, Tony Iommi, etc),You’ll have some trouble finding instruments but I think you’ll find playing lefty will offer more challenges and creative variants. It will challenge you and with those challenges, you gain strength in being unique.
It sometimes is important to not always follow the herd, but yourself in making these choices that will hopefully stay with you for life.You say your picking hand is better with more control when left handed. Much of your drive and rhythmic control comes from the picking hand, and that IS really vital. I think you’ll get more comfortable with holding the instrument and get your fretting hand coordinated with practice and time…thats REALLY where you take control of your musical future and what you can offer.
Fender has many mexi models in lefty for such a slight upcharge. I would go with a Mexi lefty strat or tele.
