How can I stop my leads picking up radio?
I linked my guitar amp to my computer’s microphone input using a 3.5mm auxilary cable, a 6.35mm cable, and a converter between the two. When I go to record anything, or listen to it as it’s going through the system, I can hear ABC radio as well as my guitar. I can’t work out which cable it is, they all seem to do it. Is there anything I can do to stop picking up the radio?
your cables are acting like an antenna and then being demodulated by a dirty connection that is acting like a diode, then amplified.
You can try a couple different things, maybe all of them;
1) make a couple coils in the audio lines. This acts like an inductor.
2) snap on ferrite cores. These are very similar to the bulges on the ends of computer cables.
3) open the connectors and solder a .0001mfd across the connections.
4) clean the audio jacks. There is rectification going on somewhere and the most likely place is where two connectors meet and form a PN junction.
