i have been thinking about purchasing a hollow body guitar.?
What is the difference in a hollow body and a semi hollow body guitar?What kind of styles would you use each one for?what are the differences as far as size and weight?
My Gretsch, a 6120 Nashville Chet Atkins, is a hollow-body electric that I used for more than 40 years on a professional scale. Its tones are great for Jazz, Country, Rockabilly, Standard Popular, and Rock as it has two upward switches that can produce many different nuances.
You can buy hollow-body Gretsches today for about the same price as I paid for mine back in 1965: $600, but they are now called 5120s and are single cutaways. That’s what Musicians Friend sells them for. Their weight is evenly balanced and it is best to have a wide shoulder strap to help carry the instrument while playing standing up.
The Gretsches of today are still beautiful instruments and they resemble the Gibson ES-335 except it has a Bixby tailpiece and vibrato arm and probably a belt buckle pad on the back.
