How to set up your 6 string guitar to drop B?
I want to know the necessary steps on how to set up a 6 string guitar to drop B tuning. I know you need thicker gauge string but what else do i need to know other than getting thicker strings. I know its possible to do on a 6 string but i know there is other some steps to do. Does anyone know how? There is no tremolo bridge or Floyd rose or floating bridge.
Well, once you put the thicker strings on and tune it accordingly, the first thing you will have to check for is string height. The strings will vibrate in a wider pattern and that means that you may get some buzzes. So, if thats the case, you may need to raise the bridge a little bit to eliminate that. Once the bridge is raised, you will need to check the intonation as a precaution. Thats it for now. Over the neck week or so, keep an eye on the neck of the guitar. With the lower tuning you will have considerably less tension on the neck and it may start to bend backwards a bit over time. If so, you will need to adjust the truss rod.
Obviously, any changes made can be reversed when you tune back up, if you tune back up.
