What are the options for fixing high action on a classical guitar once the saddle is already as low as can be?
A common problem with guitars, and especially with CLASSICAL GUITARS is when the saddle is as low as it can go, and the string height is still too high. Also assume that the neck is NOT warped, and the bridge is NOT lifting off. I’ve seen this on so many classical guitars. I’ve seen this with so many guitar manufacturers and private luthiers — it is like no one can design and assemble a classical guitar with a higher saddle, and lower action at the same time. YAMAHA is better than most at being able to come out with guitars with consistantly higher saddles and still have very playable action.
Is there a way to fix this on an existing guitar? New fingerboard? Other solutions?

Although I have seen a lot of people say that classical guitars dont have truss rods, I have seen Yamaha classicals with truss rods. Actually, I own one. However, going by the information in your question, you are saying that the neck is not warped… so I will assume that it is perfectly straight with a hint of relief. The 2 things at this point that control your string height are your nut and your bridge. If your bridge is as low as it can go, I wouldn’t really advise lowering the nut… that will typically only lower your strings a very small amount. The bridge is about 95% responsible for the string height without the neck coming into play. So, if all those things are correct and as low as it can go, then thats it, you are as low as you can go.
Sometimes on acoustic guitars, the belly (face) of the guitar bubbles up a little from the tension of the strings over a long period of time. This is much more typical with steel string guitars because of the tension. You can take a look at the face and see if that is happening.
I’d say, take a second look at the neck to see if its correct. Just keep in mind, acoustics have much higher action than electrics. So if you want it to play like an Ibanez RG, you will be out of luck.
