Difference between three bass strings of classical and acoustic guitar ?
Simply saying, can I replace the three steel bass strings (E, A, D) of my classical guitar with the three bass strings of my acoustic guitar ? Is there a difference in gauges ?
No, do not do this!!! You can’t replace the E,A, and D strings on your classical guitar with the three bass strings of your acoustic steel-string guitar. You’ll most likely ruin the classical guitar if you do.
The bass strings on your classical guitar are NOT steel — they consist of bronze windings around a NYLON core, while the bass strings on your acoustic steel-string guitar are bronze windings around a STEEL core.
Classical guitars are built and braced to handle the string tension of nylon-core strings ONLY. Nylon strings exert far less tension and pull on the guitar’s neck and body than steel-core strings do, and if you put steel strings on it, you will break it — the neck will warp, the bridge will pull loose, the top will buckle, etc.
Go to the music store and buy replacement E, A and D nylon-core strings for your classical guitar.
