i dont know which bass to get…im 14 yrs old and 5’4″ i have quite small hands.?
i need a beginner bass that come with an amp and gig bag…i was considering (due to my small stature) the ibanez IJMB15 Mikro, i has an amp, gig bag and cable (along with the usual Electric tuner and strap) but i really dont know…im not expected to grow much more but im still worried it would be too small…what do you think?
Ok, here’s the scoop. You can buy that Ibanez Mikro on sale just about any day of the week for it’s price. It’s an entry level guitar that really isn’t all that good. You’ll outgrow it pronto. The question is…how committed are you to sticking with learning? You can buy a used better quality Ibanez privately for two hundred bucks, or a better used fender like a Geddy Lee model for four hundred. Now I know paying out the extra cabbage sounds like allot more money. It is, but if you decide that the bass playing isn’t your thing…you can re-sell that geddy lee for what you payed for it. The starter bass…well, you can either sell it at a big loss…like 30-50 bucks if you’re lucky, or you can use it as a canoe paddle. Try looking on eBay or even craigslist if you want to go with the cheaper bass, or even the more expensive one for that matter. Buying from guitar centre is like buying a new car…when you drive it out the door, it’s worth less than what you payed for it. There are plenty of good quality used guitars to be had out there, especially at this point in time. The same goes for your amp…get an amp that you can grow into. I’m not saying to charge out and buy a 200 watt Mesa Boogie stack, but fender makes a 60 watt bassman amp that you can buy used for about 200 dollars or less. It’s got plenty of power, and when you start playing with a band, it will be plenty big enough for you until you start playing much bigger places. Plus of course, if you get tired of playing, you can sell it for near what you payed. The last reason I’ll recommend you to upgrade is this…better quality instruments are easier to play. Necks are faster, tuners and pickups are better, and the bodies are made of denser and more resonant material. As fare as scale goes..28.6 is only good for a 8-10 year old. A 30″ would be perfect for you and for when you grow older.
