How can I stop the fret rattle on my guitar?
So, I have an 2003 Gibson/Epiphone DOT CH, and strings 3-6 have a fret rattle. I was thinking, maybe if I took the strings off and raised the tune-o-matic bridge a little so the strings weren’t so close to the fretboard, when I put new strings on it would work. What do you think?
it’s hard to tell, without actually looking at the guitar myself.
1st, you need to determine the problem.
It could be that the strings are too low,
you shouldn’t need to take the strings off, to raise the bridge.But it could also be the neck needs a truss rod adjustment,
something I don’t recommend you do yourself, unless you know what you are doing,
you might mess it up, and spend a lot more money fixing it,
than getting it repaired properly, in the first place.It could be the nut, if they just buzz when you don’t “fret” them, just when you play them “open”.
A simple neck/bridge adjustment shouldn’t run more than $10-25, depending the guitar, and the problem.
