what would be a good wah pedal?
Im putting together a pedal board with the foot switch for my fender 212r and my boss DD-3 delay pedal, boss AC-3, and boss TU-2 chromatic tuner i also need a wah pedal but i don’t know what a good one would be i play alternative rock all the way to a couple metal songs
what would be a good way to set up the pedal board
The best wah that I know of is the Morley Bad Horsie or Bad Horsie II. It’s heavy-duty to the extend that I sometimes stand on it when switching other pedals (160lb. directly on the pedal and it doesn’t even creak). It doesn’t have a switch, it comes on when you start it pressing down, and you can adjust how long after it comes up it will shut off. (So if you use the way for whole solos or something you’d set the delay longer, letting you bring it up and then keep using it with no break in flow, or if like me you use if in short bursts you set the delay short and it switches off as soon as it comes up.) It has a full sound that I can only describe as ballsy, which fits well with lots of distortion. Actually, though, most Morley’s will work well…they just have different features. The Mark Tremonti Power Wah has the automatic on/off and similar tone, but it also has a volume boost when it’s on. Also, Morley uses electro-optical circuitry which pretty much never wears out.
If you wanted a brighter tone, the Dunlop Crybaby Classic is pretty good. I think that’s what it’s called, but make sure it mentions having a Fasel inductor. It doesn’t have the sheer power of a Morley, but it has a lot of squawk. It’s true bypass; the bypass of your wah is important, because most Dunlops especially will suck all the highs out when they’re switched off. Remember, on the Crybaby, the switch is under the toe of the pedal; you just press it down really hard to switch it on.
I’ve heard the Ibanez Weeping Demon is very good, but I don’t personally know. It has a lot of controls to adjust your sound. I think it has an automatic off/on like the Morley.
Any of those three will probably run around $50 on ebay, or much, much higher at a music store.
I play alt-rock similar to Dinosaur Jr., with lots of fuzz-saturated solos, and the Morley works very well for me.
As to setup…with what you’re describing, I recommend putting the AC-3, then the wah (whichever one you get), then the DD-3, then the TU-2. If that amp has an effects loop, you’d be well advised to put the delay in the loop; generally, you want your delay after everything else, including your distortion. If you use a distortion pedal, put it after the wah but before the delay.
