Replacing a Floyd Rose Tremolo?
I have an ESP LTD M-300FM and I’m thinking about swapping the Floyd Rose Special for a Floyd Rose Original. The special is fine, but I need to tune it after 1 – 2 hours of heavy whammy bar usage.
So…Is it very complicated to swap it? I’ve never really modified guitars, yet I don’t think it can be too difficult. Can anyone show me a video of how to do it? Also, could you tell me what size Floyd Rose Original I need for the M-300FM?Thanks!
Both tremolo systems have the same specs on them. The Floyd Rose special should stay in tune after heavy use. Check to make sure your locking nut and tabs are secure as well as the saddle screws. Also check the knife edges of the tremolo and check the posts for wear.
If you do want to swap out the tremolos, removal is as follows.
Block the tremolo (put something under it so it doesnt pull all the way into the cavity) and remove the strings. Remove the springs from the back cavity. At this point, the tremolo should fall out on its own as nothing is holding it in anymore. If you want to remove the posts, remove them at this time reinstalling the new posts in the same holes. Place the new tremolo on the posts as the old one was, and install 1 spring on each side of the block. Make sure the tremolo is lined up on the posts correctly. Then install your 3rd or 4th spring, however many you use. Put some new strings on it and set the tremolo up as you would have the last one.
