How to clean decorative saddle studs?
I have an old saddle. It’s kind of cheap, but it’s black and if I shined all the little studs up it might look good to ride in a local parade with my black and white paint. I bought nickel finished, 1/2in round spots from tandy leather. They are little rounded studs with two small tabs that go through the leather and you flatten them to hold them on. It’s the same as was on there, because the holes line up where the old ones are missing. I can replace all the ones on the fenders, but I can’t replace the ones on the saddle, because I would have to unstitch the the wool from the bottom of the saddle. I’m looking for a way to clean them up and restore the shiny while they are on the saddle. As I said it’s old and I don’t mind it getting a little messed up, but I don’t want to damage it or anything like that. It’s black so I’m not too worried about stains unless it stains white or something. Any help is appreciated.
You will need at least 2 cans of WD-40 to clean it good.
