Fender stratocaster help.?
I have a Fender Strato caster that is written Fender Stratocaster (Stratocaster in small) on the head. Then it has “By Squier ” written on very small by the round section. The guitar is made in Japan.
It has a silver Floydd Rose II on it. It has a serial number but don’t have it right now.
I am trying to find out more about this guitar as I have looked everywhere for help but cant find any.
I own several Gibsons and other guitars. I have always been a hardened Gibson fan because I just dont like the feel of a USA or MEx. Strat however this Fender is absolutely freaking amazing and would even say that it gives my Les Paul a run. It is an amazing guitar, I am confused because it definatly is NOT a squier.Kind Regards

I hate to shatter your bubble, but your guitar, if it is stock, is a Squier. How can that be you ask? The Squier guitars you have seen do not compare with this guitar. Back in the 80s when Fender decided to create a line of less expensive guitars to compete with the cheap import Strat clones, they built Squier guitars in Japan (and later in Korea). Those guitars are great guitars. By any standard, they are very good. Most of the MIJ Squiers had a true vintage Fender US tone to the pickups. A few of the MIJ and the MIK models had hotter pickups. Those models generally have slim fast necks to compete with the shred machines of the 80s. On some of the early Squiers, the Fender logo is large just like the Fender Stratocaster logo. Up at the tip of the headstock, is the small script Squier series. For obvious reasons, Fender changed that. They started making the Squier logo large and the Fender in small script so the guitars would not be confused with the Fender line. Also some folks would remove the small Squier series logo to further confuse things. Not all the Squier line has the large Fender and small Squier logos in the headstock, I think those were only the early ones. But all the MIJ and MIK Squiers are very good guitars. They are absolutely nothing like the current made in China and Indonesia Squiers.
From that era came the Bullet. Fender started the Fender Bullet as a small sized body (7/8ths) student guitar in 1981. Then they shifted the Bullet to the Squier line in Japan and later Korea. Those are great guitars also. You can tell them from the later Squier Bullet gutiars by the big star in the logo. I have 3 of those and love them.
Not all the Japanese Strat copies were cheaply made inferior guitars; they just cost less than the Fender Americans. There were Japanese Strat copies that were excellent guitars. Some of the copies were as good or better than true Fenders in quality. It was into this setting that Fender set up their Squier line. The Japanese plants they used already were making Strat clones that were as good as the American Fenders. So it really is not a surprise that these early Squiers were excellent guitars. Over the decades, as cost cutting took it hold on the Squier line, they finally dropped down to what you see on the market more recently.
