Is the Fender (Squier) Affinity Series Strat made by Fender in off white, or is this fake? How can i tell?
Im planning on buying one from an online advertisement, and he’s showing it to me in a few days. But its in off white, and i could only find it in three colors on the Fender page, metallic blue, red and black/white. Has this been made in offwhite? How can i tell its original when i see it, and now a cheap copy?
Hello, Punhal! The current Squier Affinity series does not offer a white color, but there are other models that do. For example, the “50′s Classic Vibe” and “Vintage Modified” both come in Olympic White (off-white, lightly yellowed), plus the “SE Series” is available in Arctic White (also off-white, even more yellowed). It would not be the first time someone made a mistake on which model they were selling! Keep in mind that Fender varies the color availability almost every year, so check the model year (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier ) against what was offered for that particular year (research through your favorite search engine). Do your homework (also check eBay for pictures of Squier guitars), and inspect the headstock carefully to see if the decals appear correct (placement, size, nomemclature, etc.). Don’t be afraid to negotiate the price; newer model pre-owned Squiers list for $75 to $150 in the San Francisco Bay area classified marketplace. Best regards, Dana
