What do all the differnt “slinkys” mean on Ernie Ball guitar strings?
I see that there are quite a few differnt types of Ernie Ball guitar strings. I went to go buy some for my guitar and I saw Power Slinky, Super Slinky, Beefy slinky, Hybrid Slinky, etc.
I know that each has a differnt guage of strings, but how does that effect me in regards to sound? Who would by the Hybrid and who would buy the Power? What is the different between Nickle and Pure Nickle?Two different considerations and it’s all about personal taste.
Look at the actual gauges and you’ll know the differences for size. Do you play lead or rhythm more? Lead players usually need a little lighter string for bending. I like hybrid sets so that there’s a little beef in the lower strings for good chords, but I can still bend. I like .009-.046 for a long scale (Fender) and .010 – .052 for a short scale (Gibson).
I don’t think there’s a big enough difference in tone between nickel, pure nickel, stainless and whatever else. Just put new strings on and stretch them out good. If it starts to sound dead change them. If you really don’t like the sound, try another brand. There’s not huge difference between brands either.
