how to get more “punch” and “growl” out of my bass guitar?
i have played acoustic guitar for many years. now, i just bought my first electric bass. it is a schecter stiletto elite 4. it sounds way different than most basses. a fender jazz and a musicman stingray have more of a “punch” to their sound than this one does, but the strings that came on mine kinda suck. do the strings or the bass effect the punch? and how would I get more punch using the control knobs and/or the amp settings? and no smartass answers please. thanks.
Strings do have an impact on sound. You will want to get roundwound strings for a better punch. If you haven’t replaced the strings yet, then do it as soon as possible. Factory strings are usually old.
The reason why they sound different is because the pickups. Fender and Music Man basses are known for having a “punch” to them. Music Mans are pretty much designed for playing funk so they have to.
If you want a better punch to your sound then turn the mids and highs up more. Just mess around with it until you find what you like.
